Ho'omana · To Empower

The vessel of the three selves.

An ancient Hawaiian art of healing and spiritual development — humbly shared by Dr. Matt James through the Bray-family lineage. Nine days on the Big Island of Hawai'i.

'Aumakua · Higher Self
Uhane · Conscious Self
Unihipili · Unconscious Mind

What is Huna?

Ho'o means to make. Mana means life force. Together — empowerment.

One of the original arts and sciences of healing, perhaps 35,000 years old.

The Three Selves

One person, three minds.

The teaching describes three centers of consciousness working as one vessel — the unconscious keeper of the body, the conscious will, and the higher self connected to spirit.

I

The Unconscious Mind

Unihipili — the Basic Self

Keeper of memory, emotion, and the physical body. It holds mana, runs the body's quiet processes, and carries the prayers of the conscious self upward to the higher self.

II

The Conscious Self

Uhane — the Conscious Mind

The waking, reasoning mind — the seat of willpower and choice. It sets intention and is the only self that can deliberately direct the work between the self below and the self above.

III

The Higher Self

'Aumakua — the Higher Conscious Mind

The connection to a Higher Power and to spirit — the source from which mana flows. To consciously reach it, and then return, is the heart of the practice.

Moving from Unconscious to Conscious to Higher Conscious is the lesson of life. Moving back down again is the lesson of Kahuna mastery.— The great Kahuna, Daddy Bray

The Four Bodies

Spiritual evolution is the maturing of each body.

Each body matures fully at a different age — so all are not available for development at once. As a person matures, each becomes ready to be developed and integrated. Hover to explore.

I

Physical

Kino

The dense body of sensation and action. Worldwide, in the average person, this is the only body that has fully evolved — matures first.

II

Emotional

'I'ini

The body of feeling and tender affection. Undeveloped, a person cannot fully feel emotion personally or recognize it in others.

III

Mental

Mana'o

The thinking body. When mature, it carries abstract thought; a person strong here but weak in feeling may be dissociated from emotion.

IV

Spiritual

'Uhane

The rarest to mature — true spiritual nature beyond emotional ideals. The great thinkers and healers carry all four bodies functioning.

About

Carried by lineage, humbly shared.

Huna is offered through Empowerment, Inc. by Dr. Matt James — taught in the tradition of the Bray-family lineage of Hawai'i, and shared with respect for its origins.

Dr. Matt James, MA, PhD, has spent decades studying and teaching these practices, continuing the work of his teachers and the great Kahuna who came before. The teaching is offered not as performance but as living practice — something to be embodied, not merely understood.

Our intention is simple: to pass on these arts of healing and empowerment faithfully, so they continue to serve the people who come to learn them.
